Book Recommendation: The Creator in You by Jordan Raynor c. 2022
Wow, I absolutely LOVE this book! Jordan Raynor is NOT known as a children's author. He is a writer, speaker and "leading voice in the faith and work movement". I came across Jordan through two of his short devotionals, "Called to Create" and "Redeeming Your Time"" on a Bible app! When I ordered his books of the same title, I ordered his children's book The Creator in You. I will repeat myself - Wow, I absolutely LOVE this book!
Here are my Whys:
Illustrations - the illustrator, Jonathan D. Voss, has done an exceptional job! The illustrations are detailed, creative and beautiful. They are sure to inspire your young artist! They inspire me!
The story is written in rhyme which is kind of cool!
The author gives the age-old Creation story a new perspective! Jordan wrote the book for his children with the purpose of communicating that the Creation story doesn't end with the sixth day but in actuality our (humans) work begins!
"God made you to look like Him - to act, and work and create with Him"The story continues with "God asked us to create and fill the planet with more". We, like our Father God, are all called to Create in many different ways - as artists, writers, builders, musicians, engineers, astronauts, business people, scientists, planners and more!
The author pays homage to Vincent van Gogh's "The Starry Night" which is one of my favorites: "paint your own Starry Night".
The age range is listed as 3-7 but I respectfully and humbly disagree! I know older students will appreciate this book. The sentences are compound sentences, the vocabulary is robust and the rhymes are more complicated and challenging. Older students will love the details in the illustrations.
My immediate take-away upon 1st reading of the book was - yay, we have a place in this world, the world needs us, we have a Divine assignment from the Creator of the Universe to create!
"...you are doing what God has made you to do."
